Join us at OmRising for a weekend of yoga, music, laughter and love. The festival is held at the beautiful Camp Navarro in Mendocino. It’s a smaller gathering than a usual festival where you are certain to make life long friends with similar values and lifestyles.

Ayurvedic Lifestyle

As a child, I used to help injured and frightened animals, patiently bringing them back to health and rekindling their trust in humans. I often stood up for the rights of kids less able to fend for themselves, and built self-esteem in those who had none. Later on, after losing my way and finding it again through love and higher power, I became inspired to study the Healing Arts after a workshop with Deepak Chopra. Over the years, I went on to complete certifications in massage therapy, Pilates, meditation, Feldenkrais and ultimately Ayurveda, which includes lymphatic massage, nutrition, Aromatherapy, sound healing and herbal medicine. I am NAMA certified and an Ayurvedic Practitioner at the dhyana Center in California.

Through my own needs, I began formulating remedies for skin care, mood enhancement, hormonal imbalances and created the product line, Melina’s Garden.

I specialize in Pulse consultations, Menopause, breast health, tongue analysis, body alignment and the use of Ayurvedic tools such as Guasha & Cupping Therapy. On the table I practice Abhyanga, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Marma Chikitsa, Reiki, Netra Basti, Lymphatic, and Nourishing Massage, paying particular attention to the neck and shoulders.

A consultation with me will give you the opportunity to understand your body better and how to best support yourself through lifestyle, nutrition and self-care.

I am a mother of three outstanding young adults. I love life and want to help others feel well and happy. I am available via email, phone or Skype for counsel in health and life!

Flat feet?

If you suffer from flat feet, you know how painful it can be to wear shoes that aren’t giving you the support you need.

How about strengthening those arches, though, and being pain free instead?

As a young girl I had flat feet. Every morning before school started, our house matron (I went to boarding school) would gather the girls with flat feet and make us exercise!

The exercise was simple. We would go up on our tip toes and back down, up and down, up and down. Then roll onto the heel and back, roll and back, scrunch the toes and lengthen, scrunch and lengthen. Finally, roll onto the sides and back, sides and back……. for about ten minutes!

If you have a child with flat feet, start them early with these exercises and they will not suffer later in life. You can also use a tennis ball to roll in the arch.

It worked for me!

I invite whoever reads this to join me in meditation once a day. Just try it! Start with 5 minutes, then 10, 15, and 30! You’ll be surprised how differently you’ll be able to handle stress and obstacles that come your way.

It’s been one of the healthiest choices I’ve made in my life. Many years ago, I was given a mantra – ‘the ode to Ganesh’ – Om Gam Ganapataiye Namo Ha, by a friend who made me repeat it over and over again until he was sure I would recite the words correctly and get the help of Ganesh to remove the obstacles that were in my way…… It worked. For almost a year I used this mantra exclusively. I went on to learn more and more mantras that have served me well over the years. I am able to ‘drop in’ to the relaxed state of meditation anywhere and anytime as it becomes second nature when one meditates often.

Learn to meditate and you will free your mind – I promise!

How to meditate:

Sit down in a comfortable position in a quiet place

Close your eyes

Breathe long slow deep breaths

Concentrate on your breath

Let thoughts come…… and go…….

Don’t try to stop the thoughts; let them enter your mind; look at them; let them go

Keep bringing your attention back to the breath. Listen to your breath.

If you have learnt a mantra, repeat it over and over and over and over! If you have Mala beads, move each bead along the string over and over again from beginning to end and back again.

That’s it!

Soon you will no longer have random thoughts entering your mind. The ‘monkey mind’ will simmer down and be calm, welcoming the stillness of meditation. If you find yourself shifting about and feeling uncomfortable, be patient, that too shall pass. The stress in your life will drop away and things that seemed daunting will no longer bother you -:)

ps. I make custom Mala beads to order with semi precious stones. Let me know if you’d like a strand for your new meditation practice!

Healing Touch!

When I’m not promoting and booking music, I’m working with people on their health and well-being. I’m a certified Ayurvedic Practitioner and Massage Therapist. Ayurveda has been around for about 5,000 years, and is one of the oldest holistic healing systems. It is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. The primary focus of Ayurvedic medicine is to promote good health, rather than fight disease.

So, if you are currently in the Northern California area and would like a consultation and some bodywork, or just a great massage, please contact me to set up an appointment.

For those not in the area, I can also consult with you over Skype or FaceTime if you are experiencing symptoms that you’d like help with.

You can email me or text me (707) 548-3564

Earth Day ~ Turn off the blues….

It’s Earth Day, and what better way to spend it than in nature. After this post, I’ll turn off the computer and all electronics, and go for a walk. I want to feel the sunshine’s warm rays, smell the blossoms along the trail, and let a smile settle on my face.

If you work all day in front of a computer, play video games all the time, or have your head constantly at the phone, take some time today, EARTHDAY, to be in nature!

Have you been feeling sad, lost, tired, unmotivated? It could be that you are spending too much time plugged in to electronics. We need fresh air, daylight, sunshine and nature to thrive and lift our moods. Try taking a twenty minute walk today, unplugged from everything. Leave your phone behind! You don’t need it on a walk! If it’s your only clock, then just guess how long twenty minutes are and see if you are right when you get back.

Wishing you a happy Earth Day!

Namaste ~

DIY Screen Door

Find a piece of breathable fabric that you like. (I used a mesh fabric with patterns on it.)

Measure and cut the fabric to the shape of the door or window you are covering.

Staple the top of the fabric onto the outside of the door/window frame.

Once it’s stapled, cut a piece of nice looking wood to the size of the door/window frame and nail it onto the stapled area at the top of your fabric.

Et voilá!……The rest of the fabric is free to walk through or blow in the breeze!
